Oscar Thoughts:
Favorite moments:
Everything Melissa McCarthy did, up to and including, hitting on Billy Crystal, doing shots with Rose Byrne while presenting, and gracefully and tearfully losing to Octavia Spencer, was classy, hilarious, and balls to the wall entertaining. I want to be her when I grow up.
RDJ. If the Academy isn’t interested in his hosting abilities, I’ll throw a party and have him MC, just because I know he’d kill it. Seriously, give Rob a chance.
Emma Stone asking Jonah Hill to dance. And he ever so casually cutting her off. Puh-leese, he’s already hit that. Obvs.
Will Ferrell and Zacsh Gafinilakifis playing the cymbals INTO BRANGELINA JOLIE-PITT’S face.
Jean Dujardin and Michel Hazanavicius going to accept their awards very.. affectionately.
Penelope Cruz and the color-changing dress. Seriously, tell me that thing wasn’t purple on the red carpet.
Jim Rash’s leg pose. Simple. Elegant. Understated.
Bret McKenzie saying, “Thanks Academy.” like you might thank your brother for passing you the salt at the dinner table.
Christopher Plummer thanking the Academy like his entire life he had been preparing for this moment, and then telling us exactly that.
The Cirque Du Soleil thing.
James Earl Jones accepting his Governor’s Award on stage in London.
UGGIE!!!!!
Least Favorite Moments:
The mini-interviews had no context, no relevance, and the people giving them didn’t seem genuine at all.
Billy Crystal’s poor taste poor blacks joke.
Meryl Streep. When she said she could hear half of America moaning, she was talking about me. I was very vocal about my utter disbelief.
There were only TWO original songs nominated, and no time in the telecast to at least hear the WINNER??? I so wanted to see Bret play Man or a Muppet. I was very disappointed.
Pre-Show: “The Dictator” dousing Ryan Seacrest in whatever-the-fuck. I don’t even like Seacrest, but I was pissed off on his behalf.
Woody really couldn’t come to LA to support his stupid movie and pick up his award? Also, why wasn’t ANYONE else from the movie there? Except, Owen Wilson, I guess. But really, no one else wanted to go?
Random shots of George Clooney throughout the night. No one cares what he’s doing. At least, I don’t, and these awards are about pleasing me, right?
Anyway, it was a decent telecast. Grazer did a good job. Billy Crystal was perfectly adequate. But this upset will haunt Meryl Streep forever. And by haunt, I mean stalk, and by upset, I mean me.
